The When, How, and Why of Christmas

Galatians 4:4-7

Let’s take a look at the significance of the timing of Jesus’ birth. According to the dictionary, the definition of “timing” is: the ability to select the precise moment for doing something for optimum effect.

So when we speak about Jesus’ birth, we can see in Galatians 4:4, the Bible says “the fullness of time.” The fullness of time implies that God is in control of history. It also implies that Jesus came in God’s timing. Jesus’ coming was not one day before or behind the appointed time.

Mark 1:15
“And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

Ephesians 1:10
“That in the dispensation of the fullness of times, he might gather together in one all things in Chris, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him.” This means that in the fullness of time (in God’s perfect time), Jesus was born 100% God and 100% man.

Genesis 3:15
Christ’s coming as the redeemer was predicted as far back as just after the sin in the garden. The Bible says, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

This was a prediction that Christ would one day be victorious over satan. From the very beginning, the coming of the Messiah was expected.
